  1. Maybe think of it is as something you do for the other person? You want them to feel good too right? You're giving them mouth massage? I don't know if that's useful advice. I'm the opposite in that I like kissing but don't really like most other sexual activity. What specifically about kissing do you disslike? Is it the mouth on mouth aspect of it? Or do you dislike kissing other body parts too?
  2. In that case I'm shrugsexual
  3. On this site there are lots of old threads buried beneath the newer ones. Since new people come here all the time, I thought it could be fun to share if we have any older favorites. Either one you participated in yourself or an old one you found. I won't link any myself right now because I have trouble with links on my phone. But I hope that others have some tips.
  4. Welcome! Here's some aro ice cream ?
  5. That's a good point. There's a lot of pressure on romantic relationships. You're dependent on them for every major aspect of your life: your home, your children, your economy. Only main thing most people have independently from their spouce is work.
  6. Welcome! Have some aro ice cream What genre of books do you like?
  7. It's not your responsibility how your parents react to your orientation. But if you don't feel comfortable telling them yet you can just say something vague like you're not interested in dating.
  8. I think you could have a scene like that, but should it be at the start of the story? Usually the first scene is supposed to give the reader some indication what the story is about. Maybe work the aro discussion into the story at another point.
  9. I don't really look for any specific types of relationships. I want every relationship to grow organically from what we both want. If I found someone who I got along with extremely well and felt comfortable with, I might want to get into a more committed life partner relationship with them. But I wouldn't go looking for a qpr.
  10. I think this is good advice. I've been trying to be more open about my disinterest in dating and relationships. It's difficult though because it's a topic I have long tried to avoid. I'm trying to get used to asking people if they have a gf/bf and then when they ask the same I can explain that I don't date.
  11. Have you posted this on r/aromantic on reddit? If not, I can post

  13. I totally get what you mean. I also don't feel oppressed in any way by my romantic orientation and I'd hesitate to lump myself in with other LGBT+ categories that faces hostility or discrimination. I think my dissatisfaction with the system is not about my own discomforts but rather a general feeling that amatonormativity is hurtful to everyone. We need a society which takes into account other close relationships just as much as romantic ones. I agree though with @assignedgothatbirth that it's a privileged for me to not have to worry about financial aspects of being single for life. But that's a problem who face all singles, whetter they're aro or not.
  14. This is a good list. I'd add awareness about romantic harassment to the work place category (and maybe to education in general) If someone is making romantic gestures at you, like asking you out or bringing romantic gifts even though you've made clear you're not interested in a romantic relationship, that shouldn't be allowed. Could have a lot of common ground with feminism and organizations that seeks to question gender roles and dynamics.
  15. I suppose the most important thing for me to convey is that I'm content with being aro. I don't long for a romantic relationship. If one starts by explaining aromanticism, a lot of people will want to reassure, saying you'll find someone, or that maybe you can learn to love. But if I start by explaining it as my choice then they know I don't need reassurance or advice.
  16. I've not come out as aro to many people overall. Most of the time the topic doesn't come up. But when I have it has always been by starting to explain the concept of aromanticism. Yesterday a person I've recently got to know better told me he had a crush on me. I decided to respond differently than I used to. Rather than to get into the terms I just said: I don't date. And then explained I don't have an interest in romantic relationships. Not until we had talked for a while did I mention the term, when he asked me if I was asexual. I've decided I much prefer this approach to coming out since it's more about my choices than some uncontrollable orientation. And I wanted to share it in case someone else might be looking for a different approach too.
  17. That is mostly true I think but I have seen some aromantics on reddit post about how they don't experience feelings of any kind of bond, not even friendship.
  18. Have you looked into getting a flat mate? I have two and it's been working out great. We don't spend much time together, we just each do our own things. They are clean and considerate and they water my plants when I'm away.
  19. Yeah I'm not arguing for replacing the definition or anything like that. The one thing we in this forum have in common is this lack. I was just curious how people personally would describe it in another way. It's gonna differ for everyone. I think it's important to explore differences between aros to though, exactly for that reason of common misconceptions.
  20. My guess is that high loyalty means you put personal relationships very high. In its extreme it entails nepotism, tribalism and corruption. The weaker the state the more sense it makes for people to put a lot of emphasis on personal loyalty.
  21. Sometimes there are discussion on this board about who and who doesn't want to have children. let's say it was the future and it was possible for people to engineer their kids by picking different genes for them. What type of genes would you contribute to be used? I would give genes that determine the shape of toes since I think mine are very pleasing
  22. What's the opposite of amatonormativity? Relationship anarchy? I embrace relationship anarchy
  23. There are no gods in the universe, no nations, no money and no human rights—except in the common imagination of human beings. Yuval Noah Harari
  24. Your scores: Care 89% Loyalty 33% Fairness 81% Authority 25% Purity 58% Liberty 22% Your strongest moral foundation is Care. Your morality is closest to that of a Left-Liberal. That was interesting. But some of the questions were so stereotypically American that they made me laugh ?
  25. I was just thinking about how weird the identity of aromanticism is really. Something that is defined by an absence. If you were forced to describe it in terms of pressence rather than absence, what words would you use? Personally I think I'd would describe it as a different focus in life. I'm very concerned with my role in society at large rather than just my relationship to one other person.
