  3. I think the fear i have is that as gambling has gone online it becomes easier to hide from those around you, you don't have to walk to the bookies, you don't have people seeing that you are gambling. so if I got addicted to gambling, as a single guy living alone, with all my finances sorted by only me, I dont think anyone in my family or friend group would know up until the point i get kicked out of the flat. that thought really worries me so I guess I never want to get started. I suppose I am lucky in that no-one in my family got me into gambling, but it really is something I intend to stay as far away from as possible.
  4. the thing i notice is that apartment prices near me tend to tack on a really high service charge, plus ground rent. Also very few flats/apartments are allowed by the council to be built outside the city centre. So there is honestly very little difference in overall cost between buying an entire old 2 up 2 down terraced house and buying an apartment. There is also the fact that governments where I am tend to have a preference for family homes over flats and places for single people. generally councils can reject based on something being out of character for the area or negative appearence, and councils don't seem to think their area's character suits cheap flats, even if i think the area is so run down it would suit a portal to hell. There is also a loss of family homes rule. basically councils can reject a plan to turn a house into a few flats, even if the owner would really like to, because that would mean a loss of the almighty 'family home' which is of course more important than anywhere for us single folks to live. Of course, knocking flats together to return to a family home would not lead to a planning rejection for the loss of flats. still, maybe I have it better than countries like the US where governments can just mark out most of the land and ban anything other that family homes from being built there.

  8. ok I will have a look to see if I can find how invision does labelling of their menus. thank you for bringing this up. you say most links dont have labels, if you could let me know some of the things you do get labels for that would be realy helpful as then i could see what is different about them in the site editor.

  11. Here's a link to this month's carnival of aros https://carnivalofaros.wordpress.com/2022/08/01/august-2022-call-for-submissions-throwback/ The theme is Throwback, and here is the main idea: I really like these things. They are a way to find a lot of long form writing about aromanticism, and find people who are writing about aromanticism. I would certainly recommend having a look at the roundups of some of these and seeing what catches your attention.
  12. ok, I did a few weeks on a teaching intern sort of thing a few summers back. so me and a few other young lads doing a fortnight of working in a school, getting a bit of experience in science classrooms and earning some beer money for the summer. Most of us I think did a reasonable job. helped out with the classes and did a bit of experiment preparation with the lab techs. apart from one guy. Simple ripple tank experiment to set up, a square container. various blocks to channel the water in different ways and a mechanical device to create waves at one end of the container. Lit from above and under the container is a white sheet of paper where shadows are projected of the waves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiSJspAVFh0&ab_channel=StuartMarsh -> very similar setup to this. so put the thing on a desk, set up the blocks, pour water in then turn it on and you can demonstrate the basics of waves, e.g. interference. our man has a different approach. he puts the water in then tries to carry it to the desk. Why, I will never know. As he carries it a waves build up in the water and he ends up with a full on splash of water hitting the top of his chest. this would be bad enough but then he drops the whole thing, breaking the legs and cracking the container. He then asks if we can just fix it before the class. NO 1- we have like 3 minutes because you have to get the kit out in the change between classes, 2- you broke the legs thats not an easy fix, and 3- you just soaked the electrical mechanism which makes the waves, we are carefully putting that out of the way.
  13. One thing I really liked was I had a UK map. Mounted that on some cork backing and I would put pins in at any place I had been to.

  19. its not aro, but the anti romance robot reminded me of a really good bit from red dwarf. the crew are trying to teach Kryten, a mechanoid, humanity. They want him to break his programming. in a lovely poke at the sci fi robot learning to love rubbish Lister teaches Kryten the human skills of lying and insults. 'Well, I'm truly grateful, sir. Don't you think I'd love to be deceitful, unpleasant, and offensive? Those are the human qualities I admire the most! But I just can't do it.'
