If you feel comfortable with referring to yourself as aro, then go for it! It’s a very big and diverse spectrum, and everyone has different experiences with it, so if that identity feels right for you based on your own experiences then that means you are aro :)

I was wondering because all the descriptions I see of polyamory describe it as being for romantic relationships with no mention of sexual relationships. I’m a non-partnering aro, but I’m quite intrigued by the idea of polyamory (not in romantic terms), and I was wondering if purely sexual polyamory was a thing? Unless that’s just “friends with benefits” or something. Sorry if this is a silly or obvious question, I’m just confused

The only song I know that could be taken as aromantic is “The Knack” by Mother Mother.

A little while after I found out I was aro, I started finding a lot of early signs. One notable example being an old comic I made when I was little about what to do if someone likes you but you don’t like them back. The whole comic is just a cat beating the living crap out of a dog that was in love with them lmao.

I have one best friend that I love to hang out with (in short bursts, not all the time), and that’s all I really want to be honest. I do talk to other people sometimes (like my college peers) but other than joking around a bit, I don’t really have any desire to talk more with them and form a friendship. I fluctuate a lot though (I have a very contradictory personality lol). Sometimes I get a strong desire to hang out with a group of people and play games or something, and other times I just want to be left alone to do my own thing. However, with both of those feelings I never get a desire to make more friends. Just being around other people, even if I’m not interacting with them, is enough for me. I dunno, I think I might just be an introvert, not aplatonic. But who knows lol.

I do agree that researching the medical reasons of queer people can be dangerous, as homophobes and the like can use it as another “reason” to call queer people defective and mentally ill and stuff like that. However, I can’t help but still be quite curious about how it all works. It could very well be as simple as “my brain doesn’t feel romantic attraction because it was created that way”, but it would be interesting to see if there are more scientific reasons behind it. Again, I don’t really support the idea, but I’m still just curious.

It’s always super annoying when that happens in movies. Doesn’t make me second guess myself though, and it shouldn’t make anybody else worry either. It’s just a silly unrealistic movie trope, that stuff doesn’t happen in real life. They only put that “I didn’t want to date until you convinced me” thing in movies to add more “spice” and “suspense” or whatever.

I found out I was aro about 2-3 years ago, and that first moment when I found out was a very refreshing and eye-opening experience for me. I didn’t really know what aromanticism was at the time, and for the longest time I was just completely oblivious to the fact that I literally never had crushes and never thought about being in a relationship lol. Then my friends were talking about all their crushes, they suggested I was maybe aro after I told them I never had any, and I finally realised.

I can play video games all day without a partner badgering at me to get a life. Jokes aside, it is nice to be able to focus on my goals and hobbies without any romantic feelings or worries busying things up even more. I already feel like I have not that much time to squeeze in my hobbies along with my college work, so I have no idea how allos manage to have romantic thoughts occupying their brains in the mix with all those other things as well lol.
