My name’s Sam I’m 18 and I’m pretty sure I’m aro due to some past experiences and realizations having to do with my childhood and former partners but I’m still having a hard time grappling with it so I saw this forum and thought to join so I could become more comfortable with it even though I’ve never used forums before

I like to skate, I like to do diy sometimes, and I like anime

nice to meet u

Welcome! And here's some ice-cream: :aroicecream:

(Ice-cream was offered to me when I joined so I figured I'd pass on the tradition!)

I had a hard time grappling with the idea of identifying as aromantic for a while. When I first found these forums I said I was "struggling" with it but after a few discussions I realised it wasn't a "struggle" for me so much as... a process of recalibration. A process of re-framing my understanding of my own approach to life, and my expectations for my future. And in fact all of that re-framing felt really good to me! It felt great to consciously acknowledge and accept the fact that I don't ever want a romantic relationship.

But it also just... took me some months, maybe a year or two if I'm honest, to fully settle in with all the implications that had for the rest of my life. And to be properly comfortable with describing myself as aro. It was a journey!

All of which is a roundabout way of saying, there's nothing wrong with taking a while to come to terms with and feel comfortable with identifying as aro. Take your time, take a look around the forums, feel free to reach out and ask questions and share your own experiences :aropride:

Welcome

As @eatingcroutonssays, there is nothing wrong with taking a while to feel comfortable identifying as aro. I'm in the same boat, it was a fair few months between first thinking the term might apply to me to being able to say I was aro.

hope the forums are useful to you

Hello Sam, welcome in the forum and nice to meet you.

I am Nessa 39 and oriented aroace. Actually I just found out about aromanticism a few months ago and it was as if someone just turn the light on. I finally understand so much things and being in this forum, knowing that I am not alone really helps me a lot.

I hope that you will find whatever you are looking for.
