  1. I believe that there are workable strategies. But they are very unethical and emotionally manipulative. Insult people about their looks or some other area where they "fail" in life (e. g. career / education). Put the finger in the wound. Then immediately, dramatically apologize for this "gaffe" and tell them that they're so sweet and have a heart of gold. If you do this, I believe there is no chance for romantic feelings to develop while you might still retain them as a "friend". This is the "best" answer I can come up with. Yeah, don't do this. IMHO there aren't any good solutions for your problem... 😐
  2. So anyone else watched House of the Dragon πŸ‰ S01E01 here... opinions?

I’m still finishing GOT :( I gotta finish it first. I’m assuming HOTD is after GOT.

      DeltaAro

      It's the prequel to GOT.

  3. State of the art, immersive VR by "Meta". So many memes about this, but the plain original is simply the best.
  4. It's August 23rd and this war still drags on, now in its 181st day. πŸ•ŠοΈ
  5. To me the situational factors have a much stronger influence than the person or type.
  6. Androgynous people. Straight black hair.
  7. Though Griffin and Aardvark were made up by me and (obviously) do not occur in any astrology system (an aro zodiac would still be kinda fun), the truth is that according to my horoscope I should be head of state now. Yeah... didn't exactly work out. πŸ˜ƒ Admittedly, you would have to force me.
  8. I don't think languages can sound inherently romantic. πŸ˜ƒ It's probably a mixture of: international cultural association (not surprising for all the Romance languages, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese) if the sound of the language is perceived pleasing - generally this applies to languages with lots of vowels and soft consonants, that are melodic, rhythmic and without guttural or uvular sounds. Regarding 1., the culture of a language could be super-romantic but if it's "unfairly" πŸ˜‰ not perceived that way internationally, it would be irrelevant. So I focused on that part in my last post. Regarding 2., obviously this is pretty subjective. But I guess there's another way more important "unfairness" here: Languages have variations and dialects which can make them sound drastically different. E. g. Portuguese is supposed to be beautiful... but I'd say: "You don't mean European Portuguese, do you?". So Brazilian is representative for Portuguese, which sounds 1000x better (IMHO). Dutch is also not regarded as very romantic since it's so harsh. But Belgian Dutch sounds beautiful to me, it's considerably more soft and pleasing (IMHO). This variant is just not representative for the language.
  9. At least I never heard of a "romantic mushroom". And mushrooms are best friends to trees and have a platonic ... symbiotic relationship with them.
  10. If only. German-speaking poets produced a nigh infinite supply of romo-cringe. To sift through all of that would be a project for a lifetime. Just take J. W. Goethe (widely regarded as the most important writer in the German language) - full of romo drama! Already his first novel "Sorrows of Young Werther" is about a young man who commits suicide because of unrequited love. It got so bad authorities back then banned the book because of copycat suicides (also known as the "Werther effect"). Of course, if you know German only from Rammstein and Nietzsche, it might seem aro, yeah. But I guess in this way all languages are aro.
  11. It's a defiantly aro act to give your friends yellow roses at Valentine's day. So this is the no. 1 aro flower. As was already mentioned. But I also find Green Hellebore very fitting. It's just green all over and beautiful without any fancy colors: The aro mushroom IMHO is Russula heterophylla: Very green. And delicious - though it does not look that way. The aro mountains are the Green Mountains in Vermont. The aro zodiac sign is ... no it's not Sagittarius ♐. According to Western astrology, romance does not come easy for Aquarius β™’. I "wonder" if aros are more likely to be Aquariuses. Quite an easy test to prove the validity of astrology. πŸ˜ƒ The aro precious stone is obviously emerald, that's common knowledge. And the aro semi-precious stone must be malachite.
  12. Reminds me of BDSM, but otherwise: Yum!!!! Quebec Poutine*? * very unfortunately associated with Vladimir Putin...
  13. Sorry for my grumpy last post. I don't like to be the curmudgeon considering so many people celebrate this ruling. I'll try to explain my position a bit... This ruling is overwhelmingly interpreted by bloggers, activists and journalists who are influenced by the common law system (US, UK) in which the argument by analogy is very strong and very important (sure, they ain't lawyers yet they still intuitively understand how their legal system works). But Sweden has a civil law system and so is very different. IANAL and I'm not from Sweden, but I'm still from (continental) Europe. So believe me ... I learned this the hard way: The argument from analogy is regarded as rather weak in civil law systems. A judge may regard an asexual relationship as equal if its about inheritance (an issue that aces can easily solve by just writing a will), but see no contradiction in denying asexual relationships all other basic rights and benefits (immigration, taxes, ...). So IMHO it's something Swedish legislators should correct. They came up with an archaic and ridiculous "cohabitation law". It's their job to fix it. If I'm wrong and this ruling alone really give aces all (substantial) rights and legal benefits, you can 100% discount my nay-saying. I would be happy for our ace friends. πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡ But this remains to be seen. And I'm very skeptical. Also the ruling, which I read in the meantime, again harps on about the difference between a "cohabitant" (hint: romantic) and a live-in friend. So is it really, in any way, good for aros? The Swedish government doesn't mandate anyone, like people living together, to have sex. Of course not. This is about inheritance when the deceased did not leave a will. Or more precisely: who gets the death benefit (aka money) when the beneficiary is not designated by name in the life insurance policy. It sure is likely that this woman wanted the money to go to her partner. But the theoretical possibility remains that she didn't. After all, why didn't she got those very important affairs settled while she was still alive? Hello, fellow libertarianπŸ’›, nice to meet another one here. But I don't see how this ruling is libertarian. For some right-libertarian there's only the will. "Intestate inheritance" is just owner-less goods and can be homesteaded. A few left-libertarians have even proposed the abolition of inherited wealth. Ofc, more mainstream libertarians recognize blood relations for inheritance. But they often stop with them. Wife / husband, partner => no will, they get nothing. That's actually not surprising and quite sensible. Marriage privatization is the No. 1 libertarian proposal to get out of all these nigh infinite conundrums. If the state already has such problems to accommodate ace 🍰 and aro relationships, then just think about poly relationships. In no Western country they are recognized by law.
  14. But it was the law, overruled by Sweden’s Supreme Court. Not some weird argument made by the parents. Swedish legislators ... πŸ™„πŸ™„
  15. πŸ˜ƒ πŸ˜ƒ this reminds me of those ultra-low-budget 1950s Horror / Sci-Fi movies like Plan 9 from Outer Space. Cat-Terror on the Rails. A narrator says: "And that's how the brave train driver saved all passengers from being eaten by the feline monster. He did not yield to fear!"
  16. Hello alien πŸ‘½ and welcome here!! πŸ’š
  17. I had to look that up. And regrettably found some "classic" Bovril advertisements. One ox looks at a jar of Bovril and laments "Alas my poor brother". Another ox asks: "Say Guard, am I right for Bovril?" At least the advertiser was quite bold, you have to give 'em that. Now, while "beef tea" does not sound very appealing, I'm not shocked. In general the British cuisine seems to be engaged in a kind of contest to prepare meat in the grosse... most polarizing manner. 🐟 ⭐πŸ₯§
  18. I did it in incognito mode (getting the cookie consent popup from Google) and searched for "anonymous q&a" (quoted). The rank is also dependent on country. Try google.com/ncr: arocalypse.com is on the second page.
  19. Aro Art Gallery Collected art by @EGGHEAD, @mewix, @Nix, @Tinkere and me. I took the liberty to give some of the unnamed artworks a title (see "list.txt").
  20. On the positive side, I now noticed that arocalypse.com has a rather good Google ranking score. If you search for "anonymous q&a", arocalypse.com is sixth result.
  21. Sorry, it sounded as if you didn't like tea at all. In that case there's certainly more to discover than your average, black CTC tea. I don't think it's un-πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ to have a favorite drink other than tea. But then it must be beer πŸΊπŸ˜ƒ. Hot chocolate seems more stereotypically πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ to me. I also LOVE hot chocolate. I sometimes get a special one (Mayordomo) from my πŸ‡²πŸ‡½ relatives. But even when prepared with light soy milk and stevia it packs 30 kcal / 100 ml. πŸ˜₯ And that leaves a very bad aftertaste. I also like Champurrado (with Masa Harina). Very recommended. But calorie-wise even worse. So I only drink this very guilty pleasure at November 2 πŸ’€.I
  22. I heard this so often and I'm always surprised by it. To me MBTI is just yet another grouping of humans. Like Plato's (gold, silver, iron or bronze), humorism (sanguine, phlegmatic, ...) or Nietzsche's Apollonian vs. Dionysian, etc. I don't think those concepts were ever meant to be hard empirical science, more like philosophical or artistic. Astrology OTOH is way more complex, very ancient (it developed independently all over the world) and makes a very, very bold claim: the stars have a strong influence on our lives. Now I want astrology to be true, but I'm skeptical. E. g. I am aardvark with griffin ascendant. The strongest combination ... the world should bow to me, but this is not at all the case... 😞
  23. Hello and welcome! πŸ¦†πŸ™ƒ
  24. I like the PG tips mascot. So green it could be an aro mascot: The tea itself: It's a CTC. I do not drink CTCs, only orthodox. Snob, snob. I like to drink tea straight and CTCs are too brisk and bitter for me.
  25. Hello, fellow aro INFP! We seem to be a rare kind. There are rumored to be other emotions than romance. So it's perhaps not contradictory. πŸ˜‰ But it still feels weird.
