DannyFenton123 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Ever had a song that sounded really good, but once you heard the actual lyrics you felt you couldn't really relate to it anymore? I'm not saying that this happens to all aro/ace people, but at least to me as soon as there's a lot of romantic or sexual stuff I really can't enjoy a song anymore. It's not even that there's something wrong with the song Here's one I really like if not for the lyrics: I really like screaming 'Tonight, we are young' and 'So let's set the world on fire' and the cool drum beat, but it was considerably less appealing after I heard it was about some complicated breaking up (?) romantic stuff 9 Quote
omitef Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Okay, there's this amazing Sum 41 song called "With Me," which has a great melody, but has the most cringey emo lyrics you'll probably ever hear. It's about this person who can't get over the loss of their crush, and keeps feeling like they're "nothing" without the one they love. I like to listen to it when I am being a cringey emo and getting in touch with my inner Kylo Ren. 4 1 Quote

Melody is awesome but not so much the lyrics Somebody That I Used to Know is another one with a cool melody. The lyrics aren't bad (what would I know about a bad love song) but they're completely unrelatable to me 2 Quote
omitef Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 @DannyFenton123 Somebody That I Used to Know actually reminds me of myself, because I'm the Somebody for lots of people Quote
Alaska Native Manitou Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 what about love by Heart doesn't age well. Now it sounds like a straight woman harassing an aromantic man. Quote
Holmbo Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I really like Whole again with Atomic kitten even though the lyrics are so cringe. Quote
Jot-Aro Kujo Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Ashes by the Struts. I listened to it and thought "oh wow this sounds like a good description of DSoD Yugi" and then I listened to it again and heard "I lost my lover-" and I was like. ? Quote

I found this song after I had moved houses as a kid, and I related to it so much because I connected it to missing, but no longer being connected to, my old friends. It was my favorite song for a few months, but when I heard it years later (still feeling those feelings), I realized it was about love, and was upset that the song had been ruined for me. It's a good song, but most of its appeal to me was its relatability. Quote
yupppp Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 Oh there's this song that's a total bop, and it's called "Jack You're Dead." I still love it, but the lyrics are pretty... aphobic perhaps?? When you've got no more assuranceThan a great big hunk of leadAnd if you don't respond to romanceJack, you're dead! When a chick is smiling at youEven though there's nothing saidIf you stand there like a statueJack, you're dead! You've been always kickingBut you stubbed your toesWhen you ups and kicks the bucketJust like old man mose When you get no kicks from lovingAnd you blow your top insteadIt's a fact that you ain't livingJack, you're dead! 1 Quote
