  1. It wasn’t meant to be a hard factual statement. “Cute” is just associated with something little or small, that is attractive or pleasant. And so I find it an odd word when applied to adults. Metaphorically it probably means that an adult is attractive and “childlike”, “submissive”, “innocent”, “vulnerable”. Those latter qualities are not bad, but why they are supposed to be desirable is a mystery to me. Which is implied when using “cute” (it’s a positive word).
  2. The privilege discussion aside, why does anyone feel that “allosexual” is offensive? To me “sexual” sounds offensive: Like someone for whom sex is of enormous importance. While I feel sexual attraction towards others this wouldn’t be true for me; sex is of relatively minor importance. Also “allosexual” is more precise. I mean you can feel sexual attraction towards yourself? I guess that’s possible? At least to some degree? And if it does not go beyond that, like you feel sexual attraction only towards yourself, we can consider this a type of asexuality. And that’s entailed in “allo” = αλλος = other, sexual attraction towards other people.
  3. I’m offended that you use numerals and do not spell numbers out in full.
  4. Now playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake … OMG, OMG, romo CRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGE…… I JUST CAN’T. Jessie, please! Calm down, girl. Please. If I were a politician (Aro party, of course) I would push for a law that allows people to return their media just for the reason that they contain too much romance.

    The music thread

When I was in my teens I started listening to metal like IRON MAIDEN, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Manowar, … then symphonic- / speed-metal like Helloween, Blind Guardian, Ensiferum, Kalmah, gothic-/alt-metal, dark / gothic / industrial rock like Type O Negative, HIM, Tool, Sisters of Mercy, Nine Inch Nails, hard rock like Guns N’ Roses, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Blue Öyster Cult, Queen, Alice Cooper and … pop rock like Divinyls ?? ?(just gotta advertise this very unique but obscure 1980s Australian band which was already loooong defunct at the time I listened to them – it just sucks that their songs are so much about romo stuff), alt-rock like Foo Fighters, Paramore and electronic / synth pop or electro wave like Daft Punk, Danger, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan art-/alt-/dream-pop like Chvrches, FKA twigs and my favorite artist now GRIMES. My favorite classic composer is BELA BARTOK. If you see a common thread let me know. I can’t explain it myself. I just like what I like.
  6. IMHO I do not understand how you can find adults literally "cute" ever. It has to be a romantic thing... What I find cute: babies, kittens, puppies.
  7. Bad! I do not approve of that!! Still since we’re already talking about this, do you have any good recipes, e. g. griffin fricassée?
  8. As an aro you are not allowed to eat the animals considered holy: frogs aardvarks griffins How hard can that be? Argon !! Why is there so much polyamory in the periodic system?
  9. If I want it, I don’t care haha. And the prices for graphics cards are INSANE, too … I’m still used to PC freedom and on the PS5 you cannot even backup save games on an USB drive. What the hell??? For all the hoops you have to jump through to get a PS5… you still have to deal with that nonsense.
  10. False. Not much more than 90 seconds. TPBM can eat with chopsticks.
  11. I mean I have one, but I sometimes wonder what the fuss was about. In the last 3 – 4 weeks the prices scalpers demand went from 700 € to 800 € (disc edition). There ain’t many interesting exclusives, I just played Returnal and Demon’s Souls Remake. Even a year later the PS5 remains a bit of a disappointment.
  12. Because it’s an important part in many people’s lives. Like having a career, which is also romanticized. In general, the world represented in media is only vaguely related to the real world. It’s usually rose-tinted glasses: Something portrayed better than it is, or how we want it to be like (but it is not) – in other words: romanticized. Also some very important aspects of life are ignored because they do not lend themselves to a “good movie”. It’s an extremely banal observation but I still have to state it: most of us live lives which would be very boring from a 3rd person’s point of view. But for ourselves they are not boring. On the other hand, media can be overly cynical. But only extremely rarely – as rare as hen’s teeth – media is realistic. Now, given that, I still think that romance is the unchallenged world record holder for unrealistic portrayals. I mean even allos are that self-aware that they put “romance” in “romanticized”.
  13. Well, well, you should’ve read the post before the edit (which was a bit too melodramatic, so…). I think that this mysterious “romantic attraction” is too difficult to understand and too “opaque”. In the end, we all have our own ideas what “aromantic” means (and there is hopefully some overlap). But it’s a vague and slippery term so all those “can I be aro and … ?” questions are kind of tantalizing, hehe. We should not pretend there are clear cut answers. OTOH, as long as “aromantic” has any meaning (as I believe) it’s sadly going to be exclusive.
  14. I guess yum… ? I only made masa harina tortillas but never made tortilla chips from them. Staying in Mexico… Atole?
  15. Of course… the more interesting question would be if you can be aro and like to be in a romantic relationship.
  16. Never felt uncomfortable. But THEY make a big deal about it. And THEY let you know!
  17. Ok, ok, I still like one more romance movie. So … the realistic (non-supernatural) romance movie I like the most is “Blue Is the Warmest Colour”. Since it’s about a lesbian couple, it’s soooo different from the usual hackneyed romance tropes.
  18. Oh… I remember. This thread. Don’t be shy, you yourself started it! And well … I even posted there…
  19. Really??? Maybe we should start a thread “The most bearable romantic movies”.
  20. “Squid Game” until recently was the most-viewed series on Netflix … and I’m just totally in love with it, really, really. It’s been a looooooooong time that my tastes align with the mainstream. I’m still a bit surprised about its success … because romance does not occur. I think it’s a must-watch for aros, hehe. I just LOVE how much importance it places on non-romantic relationships between humans. So what do you think? Did you watch “Squid Game” and enjoy it?
  21. Why is this a crisis again? You’re still allowed to post here even if you aren’t aro ?
  22. I’m too aro to understand the concept of “intimacy”. For me there’s (a) simply … sex, (b) physical affection (like cuddling) and (c) emotional trust. I like them all, but care the most about (c) and the least about (b). It’s (c) that I really, really, really want. (a) is the spice of my life. And (b) is nice to have but I could do without.
  23. That still doesn’t sound so bad… I felt positively suffocated and then became resentful of my partner because of that romo stuff. Who did nothing wrong (I mean she just followed the usual [?] romo-script). Really bad, I felt guilty afterwards for a long time. I still think she was great as a friend. The nice memories I have were the two of us playing video games, just completely innocent, like friends or siblings, no romo, no sex.
