As long as you're genuinely trying to learn, nothing is a dumb question. Some asexual people do masturbate, some don't. It's all a matter of personal preference. The nerve endings in our genitals do still work, we do still feel it. Being asexual is just about not feeling sexual attraction towards anyone else, that is, not looking at another person and being aroused by or fantasizing about them specifically. Attitudes towards masturbation, as with attitudes towards sex, vary from asexual to asexual.

Well, I'll go all in and leave a tmi warning!

I identify as ace. I never felt sexually attracted to people, swing from sex neutral to repulsed and have no interest in having sex with other people, but I do watch porn every now and then and try to, you know, do stuff. That being said, I never get to anywhere, because after about 5-10 minutes the activity bores the hell out of me and I go do anything else. Read a book, do laundry, sleep. Just. Whatever. Else.

Yes, some can, and some do! (Others can't or don't - so there's not necessarily a single answer to your question). If you're curious about how common it is, the Ace Community Survey found that ~70% of asexuals engage in some kind of occasional masturbation, while ~18% have never masturbated, and another ~10% have tried it in the past, but currently do not engage in masturbation. You can see more specific breakdowns (and how they compare to non-asexual respondants) on page 33 of this report.

Lol you're in luck, bc AUREA is finalizing an Aro Census, so the survey should be out around  the end of March, and results somewhere in 2021
