the feminine mystique by betty friedan is great.  i would consider it essential reading for any feminist (which should be everyone) but it's also interesting to look at it through the lens of amatonormativity: you really see how intertwined it is with sexism.  and on the bright side, you see that though there's still a ways to go, we've come quite an astonishing way in 60 years.

I can definitely consider that to be a thing for sure; I do know that marriage has its roots in slavery and ownership of women (and I suppose to an extent other marginalized "sexes" aka intersex people) but cheifly women for sure. I wonder if the countries where sexism is less that there's a history of less rigid expectations of marriage roles as well ease of getting a divorce. Granted I'm intersex and my real life experience on this topic might be complicated cause I'm not always caterogized by gender in a binary way by random folks/observers, but this is what I gather from observation and literature.

Yeah, thats how I'm feeling, My friends who do have a partner I'm happy for, its just this day seems very upsetting for me (and maybe other aros). I feel like this day really isn't supposed to be for me, and being around people who do it.

Do you feel like renaming it "Happy Palentine's Day" is worth it or just kinda meh? I'm on the fence about this one for sure.

Yeah they're very similar, I can sorta understand written Spanish even though I've never studied it properly, and spoken Spanish if they talk really clearly and slowly

Yeah same for me with my knowledge of Spanish and applying it to Italian; I remember being able to listen to songs in Italian pretty easily, like in Eurovision for example. I remember listening to Grande Amore in 2015 in Italian and I was like wow, I really can get this with my knowledge of Spanish. I also remember that it had mixed reception, other countries liked it, but Italians were like, "meh".

It's for two reasons: one, the joke that goes "I wanna be a schwa: it's never stressed", because well, the stress of a syllable never falls on a schwa (or so I hear).

Second reason: in my native language, every word is gendered with the ending vowel representing the gender, and there's only 2 options, masculine (-o) and feminine (-a), so myself, being non-binary, and many other people in queer spaces use the schwa (-ə) as a gender-neutral ending vowel. So it's kinda like saying "I'm a they".

    Ditto. And thanks :D

Thanks for explaining, could I ask what the language is?

Hello! I made a thing! Just changed the lyrics to Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl to make it aroace.

(I didn't sing it myself, I used a program that makes a computerized voice sing, similar to Vocaloid if any of you are familiar with that)

I know most of the lyrics are a gross generalization of what being aroace means, but I mostly based it off of my own experience, so maybe it won't be relatable to everyone but yeah.

Also, sorry for the shameless self-advertisement, but I made it for the aro and ace communities so I'd like for it to reach them :) I hope you like it.

Happy aromantic awareness week by the way!

What's the name of the character in the video?

  6. Well for a lot of people, seuxal attraction = romantic attraction = aesthetic attraction so I thought, eh I feel sexual attraction from time to time as well as aesthetic attraction, therefore, I can't be aromantic. But I believe that the metric I applied to my concept of aromanticism was kind of wrong. I also felt the need to pursue relationships so I could feel safe when engaging in sex, which I guess makes sense, as an intersex person. However, I have since realized that i'm not only suited for relationships that follow a dating framework, but that i much prefer QPRs or very close friends with benefits, and that I can check for emotional compatibility in order to have sex without necessarily having to date anyone.

Hi I'm remotely new here and found out I was AroAce May of last year, and that I was a Sex Repulsed AroAce was about November of last year, and am Anti-Touch except for a few people. Being AroAce in a slightly homophobic household leads to awkward situations and questions, cus im so far back into the closet with my immediate family, I'm practically in Narnia. I hope to make some friends ^^

Welcome! What does your username mean btw? I've never heard of it before and it seems intriguing.

I'm done with Forspoken. It took me 14 hours. After Tanta Sila I got bored and just rushed the rest. I was very hyped for it, but feel disappointed. It was such a cool concept... 😔

Graphics looks very last gen, world is extremely bland and generic, and the lighting is broken. 70 € is way overpriced. This is not an AAA game, not remotely.

Is this a game that you can purchase on steam or is it an android app?

False. I have no idea who that is. Looked them up to see it's a game thing.

    TPBM hates minty toothpaste.

    False.

TBPM loves retro video games (specifically games that came out before 2000).

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrimination_against_asexual_people

This is listed as aphobia, but it talks only about discrimination against aces. Would someone with a working Wikipedia account (mine seems to have been blocked, which is weird since I've only ever used it twice, and those were both fixing spelling mistakes in articles) mind going into the Talk section to address this?

Dumb question, but how do you make a wikipedia account?

A lot of fun games are small indie titles so those chances are really slim. But maybe their own titles will eventually get remakes? I’ve bought Metroid Fusion for the Wii U just to be on the safe side though…

Oh same, I get why they do it but that doesn’t mean I have to like it >:(

When you say you bought it, do you mean the physical copy or did you download it to your SD card? I'm not a law expert but from what I gather depending on the jurisdiction, "ownership" of virtual stuff like games can be kind of hazy and a gray area but physical ownership in many countries is like "that's definitely yours".

Yeah part of it seems like a money grab but then again with new developments in AI and VR maybe you really do need the new hardware? Not sure if it really is necessary but who knows lol.

The discussion is becoming kinda long; if you want to send me a message feel free to do so, but if not that's okay too.

Yep, you can’t directly add funds anymore though. But you can link your Switch Nintendo Account to your Wii U/3DS Nintendo Network Id and then you can use the funds added to your Switch in the old eshop

Just untill March 27 though, then it closes for good…

Oh dang... I guess then the 3ds games on the shop will be sold yet again on the switch or something? Dang... oh well at least mario kart tour has some of the courses from mario kart 3ds. I'm always sad when consoles "die out" so to speak and no new games are released. I remember way back in the day when it happened to the gamecube.

I’m playing through the 3 Box Boy! games on 3DS right now, because the eshop for 3DS and Wii U is closing in March and I read that these games are a must play. They are also only about €5,- each, so that’s nice.

They are really fun puzzle games about a box with legs who can spawn boxes to solve the puzzles:

Levels are short so it is ideal to play in short bursts.

Wait the eshop is still active? Say what?

    Nice

I wonder if the fact this is rare to talk about outside of a small group helped in a way. If almost everything the ai saw on the subject was very similar and made the same few points that might be easier to work with than a subject with a huge variety of opinion.

I'm thinking that there would need to (and this is my rudimentary understanding of the science behind AIs) be some pattern recognition of all the different topics people who talk about amatonormativity, which topics are the most common, which topics are the most popular, different perspectives on amatonormativity, and so on (this is just me naming a few things related/relevant to AI and pattern recognition, not an exhaustive list).
