and we have a name for those people: Posers.
I've heard that word before, a lot. Sometimes directed at me.

@DeltaV I didn't know about those European words. It makes more sense that the prison slang term comes from that.
@Jot-Aro Kujo Sorry. Was it the video clip that seemed condescending or something else?
British punk band The Ants were aware of the origin & ran with it. Sometimes drumming in a tribal style, sometimes wearing stage makeup resembling "war paint." There were also acknowledgements in various songs--most notably The Human Beings in which lead singer Adam Ant gives shout-outs to various tribes. It seems they've actually educated their fellow Europeans, so it doesn't offend me.

I've gotten used to they, though at 1st it seemed like it contradicted what I learned in school. ? Speaking of which:

I learned about first, second & third; but what on earth is fourth person!? ?

What a clever title. ?

Punk.
People who culturally appropriated a hairstyle from the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk) also stole the word punk from the Anishinabe (Algonquin). I'm guessing none of them realize that they are labeling themselves as a tiny, slightly annoying little bug known as a blackfly or gnat. Remember that when you see one of them try to be intimidating.
Also: don't some linguistic thieves abuse the word even further by using it to describe someone who was raped in prison?
Either way, I don't want to be called something like "punk."

I recently remembered Boxing Helena. CONTENT WARNING. Note: I haven't seen it in years; I may get some details wrong.
It's about a surgeon (Julian Sands) who is obsessed with his beautiful neighbor (Sherilyn Fenn). He even manages to sleep with her, but that doesn't lead to a relationship. He's unhappy when she spurns his romantic gestures & ends up with someone the wealthy doctor regards as a dimwitted thug (Bill Paxton). Eventually he confronts her about sleeping around & not returning his love. She gets annoyed & walks away, he follows her, she runs--into traffic where a car drives over her legs. Spoiler for content:
SpoilerShe wakes up in the surgeons house to find her crushed legs have been amputated. He intends to keep her there until he wins her over. He tries to treat her like a queen, but she obviously doesn't like being held prisoner. At one point he gives her a wheelchair so she can move around the house, but she uses it to try to escape; so he amputates her hands. He then sets her up like a goddess statue in a shrine & worships her until she gets Stockholm syndrome & starts to love him back. However the thuggish boyfriend isn't that stupid; he's noticed the doctor's strange behavior. He breaks in, sees what he's done to Helena & kills him.
Spoiler for ending:
SpoilerThe surgeon wakes up in his office; it was all a dream. He actually did bring her to the hospital after she was run over. He goes to visit her hospital room, of course not telling her about his sick fantasy.

It's not just you. I was raised by a Christian family ("Be fruitful and multiply!") who all had too many kids & were quite disturbed by my lack of interest in anyone. Other aros have gotten plenty of dense responses:

She's always been so focused on women succeeding on their own, that I assumed it applied to romance as well.
Did you try saying this to her?

I am a Shamanist. I found comfort in rediscovering my people's traditions after a confused upbringing by (Baptist/Fundamentalist) Christians.

Send Me a Wife for Christmas is anti-romance. The more you hear this guy's demands, the more obvious it becomes why he's single.

It isn't only mental; I have strong sensory input & it actually hurts to be touched.

Endrance in .hack//G.U. plays online as a male character with feminine characteristics. The novel describes Endrance as someone to whom the concept of gender has no meaning.
About .hack//SIGN:
SpoilerTsukasa is gender fluid. Online Tsukasa is male & even gets a girlfriend. Offline Ann Shouji is a girl.

Here's a professional look at Twilight. It makes me glad that I never read or watched it.

@Rony Option added. I don't think I've heard that word before, but I think I understand what you're saying.

There are 2 others:

I can think of 2 movies about the horror of child marriage:
-
- The King of Masks. Hong Kong, 1996. A man who never had any interest in marriage worries that his unique mask-making art will die out if he doesn't produce an heir; he decides to adopt.
- Little Man Tate. US, 1991 About a genius child of a single mother who's never had a long-term relationship with a man. He also finds himself under the care of a woman who is devoted to her work, not dating.
- Redemption. US, 2004. The true story of the friendship between Stan "Tookie" Williams--who regretted founding the Crips--& Barbara Becnel, an author who helped him dissuade children from joining gangs.
- Secret Ballot. Iran, 2001. The story of an election official encouraging people on a rural island to vote, & the conservative soldier assigned to escort her.
- The Wiz. US, 1978. A woman has reached middle age without getting married & her family thinks something is wrong with her. She escapes to an Oz which is a fantasy version of New York City.
- Zeiram. Japan, 1991. A genetically engineered monstrosity has landed on earth, followed by a bounty hunter who arrives just in time to rescue a couple humans. While it inverts the usual damsel in distress story (a woman is protecting 2 men), she she doesn't get romantic with either of them; she lives for battle.

After seeing people unhappy or anxious about being single, or acting stupid when they are in a relationship, I am indeed grateful not to have to be that way.

Maybe you can carry a water gun or spray bottle with you. When one of them says something like that, give them a squirt in the face--then tell them they can't get angry because it's just a joke.

I am the type of autistic with strong sensory input. Even a slight touch can be painful, especially if I'm not expecting it.

The stereotype would be that men aren't very interested in romance while women always are--this poll shows different. @David Box & @Cee Fox: nearly 50 votes, but not many non-binary like me.

Yes. Shugo & Rena were the main characters of .hack//LEGEND OF THE TWILIGHT BRACELET, a 3 volume graphic novel that also had a TV series & a music CD. It's part of the greater .hack multimedia franchise created by Hiroshi "Piros" Matsuyama. https://dothack.fandom.com/wiki/.hack//Wiki
I've added images to the previous post.
