  1. That's why I prefer SGRM, which means Sexual, Gender & Romantic Minority. It's more inclusive & less confusing than LGBT+ whatever other letters you want to add.
  2. 10 years ago I was diagnosed on the autism spectrum by a psychiatrist. When I was in school I was sent to see a counselor every week starting in 3rd grade. The teachers wondered why the one who was always considered the smartest in class couldn't make good grades or get along with other kids. Of the many counselors I spoke to, not one ever figured it out. They just seemed to agree with the teachers that I was stubborn & selfish.
  3. One Topic at a Time made another aromantic memes video.

  5. As a Native Shamanist I often wish I could do flashy or dramatic spells like in a movie, novel or game. Real magic is very subtle.
  6. I've been showing She-ra and the Princesses of Power to my BFF.  At the beginning of season 5, episode 7 I said "Perfuma & Scorpia start flirting in this one."  She replied "Haven't they been flirting all along?"  It seems my aromantic mind just couldn't tell until it was obvious.

I didn’t think they were flirting at all, lol.

I only noticed the episode 7 flirting after the woman who made the show publicly stated that they became a couple at the end of the series.  https://shipping.fandom.com/wiki/Scorfuma

  7. My electricity is back on.  There have been storms here in Oregon, & everything was covered with ice.  A lot of tree branches broke & pulled down power lines.  Going through town now, there are still blackouts & some houses have been damaged.  I'm luckier than some.  ce2c8260-f616-4d37-8c4b-85b690816691_750

  8. Funny that this song is a parody of Jamaica Farewell which is actually about a man who left his girlfriend behind to travel. Also The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson was definitely not a love story. She only wanted to marry a human because she thought she could gain a soul that way.
  9. As far as I can tell, wanting to depict violence against women was Hitchcock's reason for making movies.
  10. From Prelude to a Kiss: Peter (Alec Baldwin): The way you make me feel--it's like a drug. Rita (Meg Ryan): It is a drug. To snare us into mating.
  11. I remember an American stand-up comedian in the 80s complaining about the radio spewing out the same type of song over and over. I don't remember exactly, but it was something like: "This is WLUV where we play nothing but love songs. Just an endless string of love songs until you single people kill yourselves." On the other hand I thought this was just another love song, but when my BFF heard is she said it was a good description of our friendship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiGKiHAwr50&feature=youtu.be
  12. AVEN is being renovated with the help of Invision. It's a little more like Arocalypse now.  There are a lot of technical difficulties though.  The good news is they now have a dark theme that's easy on my sensitive eyes.

Yeah, the problem is that the react button is giant, and just solid grey. It also obscures status updates for me. Otherwise its great!

  13. I've always wondered why robots are assigned a gender. To me the binary only matters in regards to who can have a baby together; if a robot can neither impregnate or give birth, it seems pointless. A Korean woman author known as Wann explored this concept in the short story Automaton (from the collection 9 Faces of Love published in English by Netcomics). In a world where robots are implanted with human brainwaves to let them easily move & talk like people, they all look like attractive women (because they're made by men). 2 who were part of the same batch are very attracted to each other & have a secret "lesbian" affair.
  14. Yes. Shugo & Rena were the main characters of .hack//LEGEND OF THE TWILIGHT BRACELET, a 3 volume graphic novel that also had a TV series & a music CD. It's part of the greater .hack multimedia franchise created by Hiroshi "Piros" Matsuyama. https://dothack.fandom.com/wiki/.hack//Wiki I've added images to the previous post.
  15. Time marches on, & it's a little surprising that:  4rrhq3.jpg

  16. I've heard that word before, a lot. Sometimes directed at me.
  17. (Remembers punks being obnoxious, making fun of my ancestors, & trying to pick a fight for no reason.) ?‍♀️
  18. @DeltaV I didn't know about those European words. It makes more sense that the prison slang term comes from that. @Jot-Aro Kujo Sorry. Was it the video clip that seemed condescending or something else? British punk band The Ants were aware of the origin & ran with it. Sometimes drumming in a tribal style, sometimes wearing stage makeup resembling "war paint." There were also acknowledgements in various songs--most notably The Human Beings in which lead singer Adam Ant gives shout-outs to various tribes. It seems they've actually educated their fellow Europeans, so it doesn't offend me.
  19. I've gotten used to they, though at 1st it seemed like it contradicted what I learned in school. ? Speaking of which: I learned about first, second & third; but what on earth is fourth person!? ? What a clever title. ?
  20. People who culturally appropriated a hairstyle from the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk) also stole the word punk from the Anishinabe (Algonquin). I'm guessing none of them realize that they are labeling themselves as a tiny, slightly annoying little bug known as a blackfly or gnat. Remember that when you see one of them try to be intimidating. Also: don't some linguistic thieves abuse the word even further by using it to describe someone who was raped in prison? Either way, I don't want to be called something like "punk."
  21. I recently remembered Boxing Helena. CONTENT WARNING. Note: I haven't seen it in years; I may get some details wrong. It's about a surgeon (Julian Sands) who is obsessed with his beautiful neighbor (Sherilyn Fenn). He even manages to sleep with her, but that doesn't lead to a relationship. He's unhappy when she spurns his romantic gestures & ends up with someone the wealthy doctor regards as a dimwitted thug (Bill Paxton). Eventually he confronts her about sleeping around & not returning his love. She gets annoyed & walks away, he follows her, she runs--into traffic where a car drives over her legs.
