  1. I'll take a look. This is all related to an upgrade in php version.

As for the leaderboard, it's a measure of most active posters over the last week. You get a chance to win every week. :) I think I set certain subforums to not count, like off topic

  2. @Sammy Sadly I don't have any control over that. It is just a free third party plugin that supports the current forum software. :(

@sennkestra, if you experience more forum troubles and you have an AVEN account, you can message me there under the same user name. Most of the recent issues were caused by an upgrade to the php version. Hopefully all the problems with that have worked themselves out by now. Sorry for all the recent downtime!

Maybe a way to hide your status updates from specific people/ones you have blocked?

I believe blocked people can see none of your content, including status updates. I don't think there is any way to block your status updates but not your posts from certain people (nor can I set any settings to do that).

  4. @Apathetic Echidna, thanks for the suggestion. On the one hand, I think it would be good to have a Wiki page. On the other hand, there are many out there already and I'd rather not duplicate work. We do have a FAQ page, but it doesn't have many details.

That being said, I wouldn't mind linking to another web site's Wiki page from here. This is AVEN's version of romantic orientations:

    http://wiki.asexuality.org/Romantic_orientation

Is there a better Wiki out there for romantic orientations?

  5. The anonymous subforum is now up and running. I made it a Q&A style but if you think it should be for full discussions, I can change it later. You may only post anonymously in that subforum. Only I (currently) and future administrators will be able to see your real member name if you post anonymously, but moderators can act based on post content. So, please be sure to follow the ToS.

Oh also, it says Guest under the portrait, but guests may not post without first registering as a member. As with other forums, guests may read the forum, but not post.

  6. How does it work?

In this subforum you may ask or answer questions without revealing your member name. The rules of the ToS still apply, but only administrators (not even moderators) can know your true identity. Moderators will be able to moderate posts made in this subforum based on the text contained within. Posts here may be reported by other members if they violate the ToS.

In order to post anonymously, click on the "post as anonymous" slider below your text. Each member will generate a unique hash for each topic, so you can see that a certain member is responding multiple times in a particular topic. But you still won't know who it is in other topics.

    Enjoy!

    Wouldn't that be dupping/sock accounting?

Uhh yeah that's true. Don't do that. :)

I mean the possibility of creating a public forum post where the creator is anonymous and can bring feedback to the following discussion anonymously.

Let me look into it. I think the idea has merit.

    Here's my site suggestion:

I think we should try to be more connected to AVEN. That will make Arocalypse significantly more active.

I think it wouldn't hurt to do some cross promotion. Perhaps their romantic orientations forums could include us as a resource. Also on Aven I have Arocalypse in my signature. It's a free shameless plug.

Ok I found a decent solution for the anonous posting. I will try to get this setup tomorrow. I think I will create a subforum specifically for anonymous posts, and not allow them anywhere else.

Could it be that some questions one could ask is regarded so senstitive to the asker that you would like to be able to ask and then respond to them anonymously?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Would this essentially be a private message, but one of the participants is anonymous? Could this be achieved by making a new account?

I think it's more like I don't want to deal with the drama of explaining it, and all the stupid reactions people have posted about getting from people... I'm not convinced I could remain calm. If they say anything that seems even a little bit condescending, there's a reasonable chance I'll get really angry really fast. I don't think I'd have that problem with most other people though, just my parents.

Or I could just email them... and send them links to read.

It may be an "easy way out" but it does make it more likely to happen at some point in this lifetime. :P

These sound like good reasons to come out over social media, like I did. I was very nervous about trying to explain it through conversation, and about any weird reactions I might get. With social media, you have a chance to make your points eloquently. I find it easier to write everything I want to say out, then go back and edit it and make sure all points are clear so there's no confusion.

In my case, I wanted everybody to know at once, so again social media was a perfect outlet. Some of you might want to let just a few people know at a time and that's fine too. You could use email in that case.

When I made my coming out post on Facebook, I didn't revisit it until two days later. I needed time to simmer down because the days before were stressful.

  10. Does anyone notice the times are off or do they seem to be working? If you post but the post time is several hours off of your current time, then this would be the symptom. Or go to chatbox, and say something and see if the time is right.

Where? I can't find the option. In terms of what times are shown on the pages, it seems to be automatic.

Hi! Sorry for the delayed response. I've been busy moving and forgot to check this subforum. Anyhow:

Apparently you can't change your time zone. It's done automagically. Now, if it gets it wrong, I don't know how to fix that...

The codes for the emoticons are different with this suite of IPB than AVEN's previous version of it. They have since changed them back since their upgrade, so it is possible.

I'm afraid changing the codes underneath all the emoticons would destroy the emoticons in all posts done so far. I think we have a much wider selection of emoticons too, so there's no parallel for many of them. I'm all for adding new ones where they make sense, just not changing the codes underneath.
