favourite romantic songs

new idea: share a song whose lyrics are meant to be romantic, or could be interpreted as such, but that you like.  could be that it works in another context, like platonic love.  maybe you just like it in its original context, idk.

it was a huge hit back then; my mom (who was a teenager then) loved it and still does.  it seems to be about casual dating--romantic but not committed--and i like to spin it as casual dating in a fwb/relationship anarchy way.  as a bonus, it has a nice sound independently of the lyrics.  but here they are:

There are a lot of romantic songs I like. I’m obsessed with ABBA so any of their romantic songs like Honey Honey, My Love My Life, and SOS. Chiquitita doesn’t seem overly romantic to me, more like someone comforting another.

Whenever, Wherever by Shakira is definitely meant to be romantic but I like to think of it as about friendship long distance.

Some of my favorite romantic songs(which is not necessarily romantic) are:

“Lay your head on me” by Major Lazer.

It is meant to be romantic, but it’s also more about not hiding your inner pain if you have had a bad day. It’s somehow a soothing song that i can imagine with my comfort characters(which i apparently have)if i’ve had a bad day and just wanna cry it out or just forget about reality and get comfortable.

“Girls girls girls” by Mötley Crüe ?

I don’t care if it’s not romantic! It’s still perfect❤️

One Day Like This by Elbow is just an utterly beautiful song, probably the most openly romantic song I will listen to. I guess it just feels really happy so I like it.

I also have a soft spot for Super Trouper by ABBA. Although the song is about a lover in the audience of one of their shows I do find it funny that a Super Trouper itself is actually a light. 

I Want to Break Free by Queen is also great, not that keen on the lyrics but me and some friends did try to recreate the music video once when we were drunk, so it always reminds me of that.
