hi! why did it take me so long to find this!

i've been a user of AVEN for about a year and a half now - same user on there as here - and i just now thought to myself to look up an aro forum, to see if it exists. just to find out... this is so very much just like AVEN's green twin it's Lovely omg

as an introduction i guess:

my name is tess, i'm 19 and from scotland (SCOTLAND FOREVERRR RAAHH !!!). i am aroace, i have known i was aromantic since i was Twelve (i made a post about that alone on AVEN here), denied it for 5 years, gave up trying to lie to myself when i was 17 and have been kind of on and off with how i feel about it. i've gotten past any point of being able to deny it, which is something, but i have times... very Often, where i just think it really sucks. and times where it's pretty sick! but that is part of life and i am trying to navigate that.

i don't think... i have anything else to say. i've exercised my right to speak too much on AVEN, now i'm suddenly lost for words when i have the opportunity to say it all again.

yeah! i have breakdowns way too often and about many things to do with either of my orientations and these forums will always be one of the first to hear..!! everyone always gives great advice and i just always love replying to others too. even if i, myself, have multiple ongoing situations at the same time. it's part of the fun!

I did almost the exact same thing lmao. For me it was 16 but that was only because of life essentially forcing me too.

i eventually forced myself, rather than life forcing me T-T. in 2020 when i was 15 i picked up loveless by alice oseman (having it had just came out) read about 50 pages, had a breakdown, spiralled... and just tried to ignore the fact i was relating to an aroace character word for word... then i forced myself to pick it back up again almost 2 years later because i decided if i could get through the book... i'd just know... and i knew alright.

What happened with me is that my sibling sent me a fanfiction that causually mentioned aromanticism without defining it and started trying really hard to shove all the thoughts I had since I was 12 and heard about asexuality (thinking it included romantic attraction). That lasted until my mom had a surgery (it went very well, she's fine) and I finally looked up aromanticism because that was slightly less stressful. Lots of uncomfortable and scary feelings later, here I am, with my giant aro flag in my room.

When I first visited in Scotland, I couldn't believe how completely different English could sound. That was nice also because I associate "Oxford English" (Received Pronunciation) with my very strict English teacher. I imagine her right behind me when I hear it!! 😨
