Ah, as for 4., it is the name of a Prophet in Islam, mentioned in the Holy Qur’an.

It’s a name given to men, a masculine name, in case you didn’t know.

It is the Arabic name/version for Joseph, a Biblical prophet.

I'm not really part of any denomination, since I barely go to shul, but if I had to pick one I'd probably say Reform or even maybe Conservative Judaism. And I'm like.... meh religious. I don't go to shul with any regularity (I go once every year during the High Holidays to hear the shofar, but other than that I basically never go), but I do celebrate most of the major holidays and fasts, and I do keep (mostly) kosher (aka, packaged food doesn't have to have a kashrut symbol, but I won't eat pork or a cheeseburger). What about you, how religiously Muslim are you?

How religiously Muslim I am would be a sort of difficult question to answer.

Regular and frequent worship of Allah (SWT) is an extremely important thing in Islam. Prayer (Salah) is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with the shahadah (the declaration that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah, and that Muhammad is His final Prophet and Messenger), sawm (obligatory fasting in the Islamic month of Ramadan), doing Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah), and giving Zakah (obligatory charity, mandatory upon any Muslim who fulfils the criteria for it).

So, yes, I pray all of the five prayers as much as I can, as much as it isn’t possible for me, and I fast in Ramadan. Zakah is not yet obligatory upon me, and it is currently not possible for me to go perform the Hajj (or even Umrah).

Eating haram foods is quite a major sin, and is prohibited. It is definitely not allowed to eat pork, or drink alcohol. There are other haram foods, yes, but I cannot go into detail right now.

As for going to the masjid (mosque) to pray, it is not obligatory upon AFAB Muslims to pray in the mosque. Most pray at home, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a reward for praying in the mosque.

i literally have a list of names i could use in the future if my current name is no longer appealing to me. most of them originated from typos that doesnt really mean anything so i only like certain names for how its worded and pronounced

    12. reminds me of a portmanteau of stoat and aroace.

    7. reminds me of Voldemort.

    Is 6. the word ‘ghost’?

    3. reminds of Halsey.

Well right now the achievement of Beelzebufo is given to people who have reached the highest rank, and that is a little easier to achieve then a 1000 posts. I ‘only’ need 175 points more to reach the great frog myself :beelzebufo:

I need 238 points only, myself! Huh, am I going to be the person who would achieve all of the achievements in the shortest period of time, since making an account and joining Arocalypse?

Great achievement, by the way, Nix!

Unfortunately since I keep kosher (Jewish dietary laws, basically I can't have most meat that isn't prepared specially, and nothing that lives in the ocean that doesn't have fins and scales), there's not many options for me to pick from, so I usually have veggies and (ocasionally) tempura. What about you?

How, may I ask how strictly religious/Jewish you are? Seems you are more religious than I thought you were, since you stick to eating kosher only. Any particular denomination you belong to?

I've found that talking specifically about pair-forming instincts makes it easier for people to understand. If you start with "I've never been in love," they subconsciously put up mental blocks. It's easy to discount someone else's feelings if you don't understand them. They'll have a much harder time if you make it sound like a scientific issue (which it absolutely is).

Your A's are innate, permanent, epigenetic functions of neurochemsitry. The pair-forming, sex-having, gender-choosing circuitry that most people have in their brains literally, physically does not exist in your brain. If it did, it would be pretty damn obvious. Gender, sexuality, and romance are all easily tangible subjects.

Allo, hetero, and cis people are usually exposed to a more emotional, touchy-feely argument for accepting diversity, and have already developed barriers preventing them from understanding such things. However, science has an authority all its own, and borrowing that language is a good way to lend ethos to your argument.

That's my trick: make it literal. If you can ground your argument in concrete terms and absolute reality, your friends will have a much more difficult time convincing themselves to ignore it. Saying how you feel is all well and good, but sounding sure of the absolute reality and tangibility of your orientations is the most important step to making people believe you. They can ignore feelings. They can't ignore reality.

As a scientist-in-training, I'd normally be opposed to the use of scientific language to force people to acknowledge a specific social viewpoint. However, your case, as well as the collective case of everyone on this forum, is far more important than that maintenance of academic neutrality. We deserve recognition, and I'm prepared to use all the tricks I know to get it. You deserve that recognition too.

Cool. So you used science or science-ey language to explain lack of romantic attraction.

Ok so @roboticanary has reached 1000 posts, yay! And he mentioned wanting (someday) to look into an achievement system of sorts. Well why don't we help a bit by creating some achievements?

I made 4 to be used for post milestones, so maybe an award for a first time poster (a tadpole early stage), one at a 100 posts (tadpole late stage), at 500 posts (frog) and at 1000 posts (the rare Beelzebufo)!

    Frogs.png.206f817e6511b8160ff0e3fe46c31274.png

These are a little useless at the moment since they are not vector based and will look horrible when resized, but I hate vectorizing bitmaps so that will have to wait ;)

Well, considering the number of people I have seen who have this achievement, it doesn't appear so rare, after all. Although, that is perhaps due to the most active members here also being some of the oldest members on this forum?

Update: lets just say this last month has been a mix of anxiety induced debate over if im actually aroace which i know is all in my head and kinda hope it stops one day. Celebrated my bday which was nice. So yeah ive really been trying to fully accept this, and i was okay with it, until today.

Sooo i came out to cat lol (dont worry hes chill), just so i could test out these words and phrases to myself. Then today i was walking home from school with a friend and we were talking about the future and relationships and stuff. Thats okay, then i sorta told her that yknow romance is good and all but the reality is just not appealing. I figured i could come out to her without reprecussions because i knew she would be chill and shes more of a distant but still close friend nowdays. I mentioned the book loveless and its subject in passing, then when we continued talking about this kind of stuff, i told her that i think im aromantic asexual. She was sooo nice and just accepting of it which made me feel happy.

But now at home, its kinda made me think. i guess that saying it to an actual person reminded me that this is real, and this will be my life. So now im sorta going through this mini crisis thats like omg this is happening, and also my mind constantly telling myself that i was kidding and i could fall in love one day (nah). I think i never really considered how it would just affect me being out. im not sure if i wanna come out to my friend group, they are all LGBTQ, but i like how things are and i dont want to feel, not the odd one out, but some indescribable outcast in a way i suppose.

So yeah, im coping both really well, and coping rubbishly. Had to write an english mock essay on Romeo's love in Romeo and Juliet, so fun...

But yeah life update. Sorry if this is too long and hard to explain, just felt i needed to tell someone, and why not loads of interent strangers? :)

That's great to hear! It certainly sounds like you have had quite a journey! Welcome to Arocalypse; I hope you enjoy it here!

Ok, thanks for this info... I seriously didn't know this. I hope we are allowed to appropriate it, because there are already existing aro masterpieces ([1], [2]) that incorporate garlic. 🙃 Unknowingly I even egged people on...

So, now since only ice cream :aroicecream: is original aro food, a dessert, we urgently need our own savory aro food, too.

    I propose: onion cake!

    GARLIC NAAN!

  11. I like elemental stuff (think Pokemon, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Fantasy magic, stuff like that). So, yes, that's why the storm part is there. As for leopardcat? I'm Pakistani, and wanted something recognisable as Pakistani, and wanted to bring a little of my country where I went. Plus, I like animals! I know leopardcats aren't well known, and they aren't only native to Pakistan, but I like felines!
As for the underscore? I simply like using underscores everywhere!

All of this happened when I was making my Discord account, in a rush, as a last-minute decision! So I had to do some quick thinking.

Coincidence much that Anathema is a song by Twenty One Pilots?

As for my username, well, I made to join a Discord server for Muslims called Straight Struggle. I was in a hurry, and had to finish quickly, so I thought of this name as quickly as possible.

I like elements and elemental stuff, so I chose storm, and then leopardcat because I like mammals and wanted something native to my country, as a little identifier and to bring the animal and my country along with everywhere, as a little reminder and identifier. As for the underscore, I like using those everywhere!

HOLD UP. I already answered this?! Well, it is still interesting to see how different, yet similar my answers are!
By fantasy magic stuff, I meant series like the Magesterium series. I do like fantasy in general, also.

  12. I don't know...the way my friends got obsessed over the members of BTS, like how the girls in Turning Red are obsessing over 4*town? Pretty sure it's real. Plus that moment hwere Meilin Lee went AWOOGA! at that teenage cashier working in the store 😳

I choose this image to go with my username here! I wanted a dark noir-esque feel. Fun fact: the profile image is actually mine I took of a swan years ago.

(Also the irony of a swan on an aromantic forum was unintentional but it pleases me greatly.)

Why is it ironic? Are swans seen as romantic symbols?

Honestly, I drew this back in the 8th grade. I wanna redo it but I suck at drawing since then lmao.

It doesn't look bad at all! Looks like a cute little wolf sketch!

My newest OC, Paprika the red panda. With the aro flag in the background, because that's my identity. That saidddd, Paprikia is a lesbian :)

Ooh, I would love to see that drawing!

As for me, well, my favourite movie is Zootopia (2016), and Nick Wilde is my favourite character (sorry, Judy!). I didn't realise how bad of a quality this image had, until I saw it so up close in my profile's page. Same goes for my cover image, I didn't realise how bad the quality was, until I saw it up so close as a cover image.

Nothing. Where I live Halloween isn't really celebrated, unless you're from the suburbs as Halloween is typically seen as an American holiday but it's gained a resurgence in my country over the last 2 decades.

Huh, which country or region is this, if I may ask?
