I was talking to my grandad recently and he told me about this norfolk tradition I think you might like.

Basically people would leave gifts for those around them, tradition being that they were left by a mr Jack Valentine. You would hear a knocking at your door, open the door and there would be a small gift, usually sweets. Sort of like a kindly version of knock down ginger.

It also had a bit of good natured fun to it. while the gifts were usually small you would sometimes get an absolutely massive box outside your door which was just mostly empty. Or the giver would tie a little bit of wire to the present so when someone tried to pick it up they would pull the gift away.

Made me happy anyway, its nice to hear about a valentines day tradition which isn't solely for lovers.
