Off topic, but does "I am a schwa" refer to lingustics or is it a reference to something else?

It's for two reasons: one, the joke that goes "I wanna be a schwa: it's never stressed", because well, the stress of a syllable never falls on a schwa (or so I hear).

Second reason: in my native language, every word is gendered with the ending vowel representing the gender, and there's only 2 options, masculine (-o) and feminine (-a), so myself, being non-binary, and many other people in queer spaces use the schwa (-ə) as a gender-neutral ending vowel. So it's kinda like saying "I'm a they".

Yeah, that's a bit of a strong word, she's bi herself. But everybody must admit: the original song is chock-full of cliches (which were already old in 2008). So it hasn't aged well. I just find it super annoying and cringe, while the aroace version is very creative and funny in a good way.

    Ditto. And thanks :D

For me, the problem is in the fact that she is considering other girls as just a test, an experience. She acts just like a straight girl that wants to experience things without really being queer, and people like that are awful. However, we know that she's actually bi, so her song is cool

Lol what I didn't know she was bi! That's so cool

  3. Strange how no-one mentioned FRIENDS by and Anne-Marie and Marshmello... They call it the "friendzone anthem"!

Others have already been named, like This is Home, but another song that gives me slight aro vibes is First Love/Late Spring by Mitski.

But only the line that goes "Please, hurry, leave me, I can't breathe, please don't say you love me", cause that's exactly how I felt while in a relationship. Otherwise the song is about the singer's first romantic love, so not aro at all lol.

Oh and Two Time by Jack Stauber? But that's a stretch too.

What's the name of the character in the video?

    It's Solaria!

10 hours ago, Jot-Aro Kujo said:

Oh, Solaria. Good to see her getting around. I still can't believe such a homophobic song got so popular when it first came out 😭 I mean I can but. lmfao

Really? I never thought it was homophobic when I first heard it, personally 🤔 at the time it was kinda revolutionary to talk about bisexuality or gayness in general at all, so I thought any representation was good enough.

But I can see where you all are coming from, cause it did downplay sapphic attraction with all the stereotypes the fact that it's "no big deal, it's innocent" 🤷🏻 or that it's just experimentation. Can't believe I'm only just realizing this now >_<

  5. Hello! I made a thing! Just changed the lyrics to Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl to make it aroace.

(I didn't sing it myself, I used a program that makes a computerized voice sing, similar to Vocaloid if any of you are familiar with that)

I know most of the lyrics are a gross generalization of what being aroace means, but I mostly based it off of my own experience, so maybe it won't be relatable to everyone but yeah.

Also, sorry for the shameless self-advertisement, but I made it for the aro and ace communities so I'd like for it to reach them :) I hope you like it.

Happy aromantic awareness week by the way!

Why did they name him that? Also, who here has read the novel on which Coraline is based?

Because they didn't want him, so "why be?", like "why does he exist" :((

I didn't read the novel, but I watched a video by abitfrank that explains what the differences between book and film are. Here it is if anyone wants to watch it:

  7. Hi wybie, welcome! I hope you didn't choose this nickname because of the reason his parents gave it to him >_< I love Coraline too, just adding myself to the pile!

still figuring it out, but I’m somewhere on the aro spectrum. maybe lithromantic, Aegoromantic? my sexual orientation is…well I think I’m sexually attracted to multiple genders but have little interest in pursuing a sexual relationship. so maybe like orchidsexual? dunno 🤷🏻

I think we might have very similar discovery processes. I considered all three of these terms for myself, too; then I got tired and just settled on aroace, lol. I thought "this fits, I'll figure it out as I go". So don't sweat it—I don't know if you are, personally I was pretty stressed with discovering my identity so I hope it's a smooth process for you!

im currently in a relationship with my boyfriend but have realized my aromantic identity while dating him. so it’s been difficult and I’m kinda stuck. Im a softie, i don’t like breaking hearts. sigh

That sucks… But you have to think about your happiness too; I've been on your same side, I know it feels awful to break someone's heart, especially if you care about them very much, but if it's not working out, it's not working out. I hope you find it in yourself to break it off eventually, and I hope you can stay friends maybe :)

id like to one day be in a qpr because the idea of that seems pretty intriguing to me. I’ve never been in one tho so no idea what goes into that

I get that, mee too. Good luck with that!

And wow, you have such interesting interests (sorry for the repetition lol)! Btw, there's this really cool YT channel that made a bunch of really interesting videos about astronomy, Vsauce; you ever heard of it? They deal with all sorts of topics too, but they have a specific playlist called "Space"; you can check it out if you want.

I also love nature; I used to be way into astrology, natal charts and all; and although I consider myself an atheist, I'm very intrigued by spirituality, especially stuff like pantheism/omnideism. So if you want to nerd about any of these things I guess I'm your person!

Sorry for the lengthy reply; hope you have a pleasant time here! ^^

Hey I know this is old but just… check this out

It is fun to shit on fonts but learning the history behind comic sans was pretty interesting to me (also I love this channel). I used to use it all the time as a kid, so I have fond memories of it hahaha. Also I heard it's easier to read for dyslexic people. Does it really deserve all the hate it gets?

…I mean it is pretty ugly but—yeah just watch the video if you want

Well i’m sorry I’m fucking broken, okay? It’s not like I asked for this shit.

Hey, please don't say that? Indeed, you didn't ask to have anxiety. You are not broken! You just need a little more support because you are struggling! There's nothing abnormal or "broken" about that; lots of people have anxiety. I'm really sorry this is happening to you.

On 11/21/2022 at 6:40 AM, Harvest said:

My Mum sometimes gets mad at me when I'm stressed out. Sometimes I'm not even actually feeling anxious but I accidently talk to fast or use too many words and so she assumes I am anxious and then proceed to yell at me for it.

Wth?? And why would she think it's even useful??

On 11/25/2022 at 4:40 AM, Goofylittlecoffeeaddict said:

Yeah, I also have anxiety and I can't talk about it to my parents because they either dismiss it, yell at me for it, or pity me and I hate all of the above

That sucks! To everyone here struggling with mental health and having loved ones who don't get it, I'm sorry!

Mhmm, I see. I’m not entirely sure, either, as to what makes alterous attraction and such a relationship different from queerplatonic attraction/relationship.

Yeah, that's why I used the slash, I use the two terms as synonyms tbh; when I said "I'm not sure how I feel" I meant I don't know if I even want a QPR with the people I like, because I don't know if it's something I would like in practice, or if they'd just end up being as constricting as a romantic relationship >_<

  10. On 11/20/2022 at 1:12 PM, Storm_leopardcat said:

    Or orchidromantic?

Do you experience platonic attraction and alterous attraction?

I mean this question for @I am a schwa. But you could answer too, @Fandom Fanatic!

Yeah, I had considered the term orchidromantic too, and it fits pretty well, but giving a name to the specifics of my orientation feels a bit constricting; I prefer just aro or aro-spec :)

To answer your question, yes, I do experience platonic attraction, and probably alterous attraction too. I figured my crushes might be alterous instead of romantic, cause I wanna get close to them emotionally, but not in a romantic context. That feels like alterous/queerplatonic to me, idk. I'm still a bit confused, cause it's hard to tell exactly how I feel about people, but that's what I gathered! Thanks for trying to help out ^^

You fall in love with people, but don't want to act on it? Hmmm.... aegoromantic?

It's closer to the love you feel for friends and family members. Quoiromantic?

If you go here, AUREA has some great labels that might make sense.

However, go with what feels comfortable.

Yes, I had taken both there terms into consideration actually, but I like to just identify as aro! It just feels better for some reason. I was obsessing with getting specific too much and it was driving me crazy, but once I settled for the umbrella term it all became simpler. Lithromamtic also fits, and it is similar to aego, but again, I find it more useful to just identify as aro. I don't dislike microlabels in general, mind you, I think they're really useful and it's important that they exist cause they bring people together, but in my case, they don't make me feel as good as just aro does :). Thank you for your imput!

But hi! It's nice to meet you. I'm Fandom, ze/she/they. If you're a teen, come join us on Teen Corner, it's pretty chill over there. I recently just went through a big sexuality crisis, so my brain is full of aro stuff.

Nice to meet you too! Sure, I'll check it out. Hope your sexuality crisis wasn't too unpleasant.

Hey! Welcome! Also omg I relate so much to all of the things you said.

Especially this bit. I've been told to give a relationship a chance (and tried to, with dating apps and stuff), but the result is always the same. I feel uncomfortable and like I'm manipulating people. The second that like any romantic (or sexual most of the time tbh) attraction is shown towards me I also feel so violated and almost shut down. Y'know?

And also if someone else tells me that I'll meet the right person some day I'm gonna loose it. Dude, I think I know myself better than you.

Thanks! I'm sorry for your experience :( amatonormativity sucks! But I'm glad you found it relatable, maybe it can bring some comfort knowing you're not alone.
