I was so busy handling my depression and (later) bipolar disorder that I really didn't worry about this stuff very much.

I did think I was a traumatized lesbian however, my Mom yelled at me when I first came out.  It was a relief to know I was ace and nothing was wrong with me per say.  That said, I did have fun cavorting with the young LGBTQ people at my local LGBTQ Center.  Even dated a girl there (although that turned out horribly)

This question actually has a very simple answer.

It's about what you want out of the relationship.  You want a romantic relationship?  Crush.  You want to be besties or permanent roommates?  Squish.

Other than that, it is basically the same feeling.

I don't know what this movie was called, but it was a French film and it was basically boy meets girl, boy is aro, they get married, they are separated because girl can't stand lack of sex, girl becomes super-sexy, girl impresses boy, and they kiss in the end with the implication that they will go on to have a "normal" relationship.  

It's not as messed up as some of the movies mentioned in this thread, but it is still pretty messed up.

It's easy to make friends, but they're all assholes.

I wish I could trust people.

I am not fond of the "teal feel" of the bottom two stripes of #3.  Change that?

Well, I suggest reading up on CompHet and polyamory.  Doing that helped me parse out my feelings a lot.
