  1. If you haven't applied yet: do. It gives you valuable experience. If you're afraid of the interview, prepare yourself just like you'd do for a school presentation. Practice your handshake and answers to questions like 'why do you want to work here?' on family if you have to. A great resource for tips about interviews, salaries, internships and so on is AskAManager. I started working by shelving books at the library when I was fifteen and it helped me a lot by giving me the courage that I could handle more and more responsibility and got to know the goings on of a normal workplace. How to conduct yourself in a work environment is one of the most valuable skills you pick up on your first job. It helped me land better-paying jobs down the line. Also, if you're in an at-will state and get fired for some reason, your livelihood doesn't depend on it. Gather those experiences like XP orbs and soon enough you'll level up.

    CAPSLOCKIA

GOODIE, CAPSLOCKIA IS THE THREAD I WAS LOOKING FOR. I FEEL THE NEED TO RANT ABOUT TAN LINES. FUCK 'EM. YESTERDAY WAS HOT AND SUNNY AND TODAY WAS WORSE BUT I WORE SOCKS CAUSE I WAS DOING WORK WHICH NEEDED BIG HEAVY SHOES SO NOW I GOT TAN LEGS AND WHITE FEET. IT'S GOING TO LOOK HORRIBLE WHEN I WEAR REGULAR SHOES TOMORROW. LIKE AN OREO ABANDONED BY HALF ITS COOKIE.
  3. The assignment doesn't say it has to be realistic traits. My ideal boyfriend: 50m tall, breathes fire, walks on two legs, excellent swimmer, has a tendency to destroy Tokyo. As for aro moments: in high school friend of mine kept showing me pictures of J-pop artists and squealing over them. I was more like: 'that guy has awesome hair. Oh wait, you actually have a crush on him. H-how? He lives half a world away and you'll never get to meet him. Why are you sad your crush is a failed one? You knew... Be more logical about your crushes, damnit.'
  4. I've been binge-reading the Metafilter thread about emotional labor this weekend, so: as a female, wayyyy less emotional labor for the hypothetical husband. No keeping up with the MIL because he refuses to pick up the phone and getting flak for it if their relationship suffers for it, no 'honey, you left the bathroom a mess' ' oh, it's not important', no 'I don't see clutter'.
  5. I'm out to my mother about being ace, and after I snapped at my sister when she asked about my love life that "she'll be the first to hear if there's any development" she's not asked since. That was about nine years ago, still no development, sorry sis :D. The others in my family are cool with whatever I've got going on and don't question my perpetual single state. But as an Atheist family I have no frame of reference whether your parent's Christian values will influence their acceptance of your romantic orientation, Amaya. Do you get a lot of questions about your (lack of) love life? Do you have a standard answer when asked about kids?
  6. Been hanging around, decided to join after a pleasant chat experience. Athena, librarian at heart, but working as a sysadmin cause books don't bring in the dough. Working on making that happen, though. Pretty secure in my aro- and aceness as time marches on. Was always pretty 'meh' about dating, and it paid off: living the life of the awesome single female with plenty of time to do whatever I want. Such as toying with 3d-printing, building tiny robots to fold laundry for me, sampling craft beer and playing Minecraft / various video games until 3AM (reading goes without saying). I live in the Netherlands, so I will make mistakes in forum posts, and hereby I plant a flag in the 'sorry, I'm ESL' excuse. Hoping to become an active and supportive member of this growing community and spread the word across the pond.
