Does it ever seem like allos view 'the relationship' as a separate entity?

I know it sounds odd but I've heard sooo many people speak this way. It's as if it's not just two people caring about each other, but more like 'the relationship' has become it's own thing, separate from the two people in it. It just sounds so stupid in my opinion! Has anyone else noticed this?

I think I know what you mean, for me being in a relationship is different then liking them and them liking me.
