  1. i kinda realized that i wasn't interested in any form of romance in middle school, googled my feelings, and "aromantic" clicked for me like a puzzle piece. but my parents convinced me somewhat back then that i just hadn't found my 'soulmate', so i took that puzzle piece out and decided to wait. it took me several years of stowing away my feelings about my identity and watching the people around me fall for others in both crushes and love before i finally realized that i was truly disinterested in any form of romance. i took out that puzzle piece, put it back where it was meant to be, and started living my life like it was whole again.

I'm a Chinese aroace. My parents aren't against the LGBTQ+ community, but they don't understand it and they don't really care. My mum is super fixated on me getting married to a boy, and even though I've tried to tell her that I don't want to get married without telling her I'm aromantic, she won't listen to me. It's pretty frustrating because I know that it would take a lot of time and explaining to get my mum to understand, and even then I don't know if she'll support me (and my extended family aren't much better either)

honestly same. i'm chinese and identify as aroace. even though i'm still in the closet, i've still made it very blatant that i'm not interested in dating. i don't dare say i'm not going to get married or have kids anymore; i mentioned it once and both my mom and my dad flipped out. it was so unnerving because my dad is - or was - usually easygoing, and as soon as i commented, "i don't want to have kids," he went on the offensive and told me very firmly, "you have to have children." to me. his daughter.

my mom is a huge romantic. she thinks that having kids and starting a family is the happiest thing i can do - which is really, really ironic since she and my dad fight all the time. whenever i try to subtly say, "i'm not interested in dating," she just passes it off as "oh, you haven't met 'Mr. Right' yet!". she expects me to get married when i grow up once i find my 'soulmate'.

my parents are also avid trump supporters. which is the main reason why i'm so afraid to come out.

but it really makes me happy to know that i'm not alone in this boat (asian and aro/aroace) anymore!

Here! I do like Steven Universe a lot, but I've only watched season 1 and a few eps of season 2 so far, still have to catch up. I wrote a commentary once in my German class about the show and how it manages to represent LGBTQ+ themes in a child-friendly way. Let's just say the teacher was delighted.
Where the show really surprised me: I'm rather romance repulsed, but still I find Sapphire and Ruby are such a sweet couple. Garnet is one of my favortie characters but it's hard to choose one because everyone has something special about them, even the secondary characters. I adore the illustration of the relationships between the characters, be it friendship or love. The whole show gives me a secure and snug feeling for some reason, it's great.

oh definitely; for me, i love the ruby-sapphire dynamic because of how their relationship is mostly characterized by traits found in healthy relationships - both platonic and romantic - like openness, honesty, and understanding. the show also does a great job of building complex, dimensional relationships, which is something that i haven't quite found in other media that people i know watch. i've had some trouble with expressing my love for steven universe because everyone around me chalks it up to a 'kid's show' just because it's animated and airs on cartoon network, so it's really wonderful to find someone who shares the same sentiments for this show!
