The word aromantic hasn't been around for very long, the term was coined in 2005 on AVEN. Aromanticism and asexuality have only become more well-known since the early 2000s after AVEN was created. But there were definitely many historical figures who were aromantic or on the aromantic spectrum. I wouldn't be surprised if records described aromantic people as asexuals, though, since the idea of asexuality has been around since the late 1800s. Generally it's hard to determine a past figure's sexuality. A lot people think that Isaac Newton was aroace because he didn't like being set up with girls and he never married. French philosopher Voltaire, who respected Newton and wrote about him, has even stated that Newton didn't like girls much. But Newton could also have been secretly gay and never told anyone. Really hard to tell, since the person's dead and any records on them could be interpreted differently.
