If we assume those numbers are correct, then the proportion of people who are murdered everyday is 1000/(7*10^9)=1.429*10^-7. We can assume this proportion is probability. Therefore, the odds of being murdered are: 1.429*10^-7. (In fractions the proportion is 1/(7*10^6) and the odds are 1/6999999). So really the odds are not that high at all. Of course this is assuming that the murder rate is the same everywhere (which it isn't).
