@organs and bone back me up on this plz

@kira-

Mashed potatoes are not considered a soup because they have a different consistency and preparation method. Soups typically have a liquid base, such as broth or water, and are often served in a liquid form. Mashed potatoes, on the other hand, are made by cooking potatoes and then mashing them with ingredients like butter and milk, resulting in a thick, creamy texture rather than a liquid one >:(

As seen in @kira-'s example, mashed potatoes often do have a liquid base (I put a mixture of milk, melted butter, garlic and salt in mine) - this base is then merged with the contents of the soup when it is processed into a more liquid consistency. Mashed potatoes could be considered a highly viscous liquid, as they are able to take the shape of their container or even flow under certain consistencies.

Potatoes are boiled in water, which is a common method for the preparation of many soups. If they were to be left unmashed inside this "broth" made of potato juice (I'M SORRY I CAN'T THINK OF A BETTER WORD) and water, then by your definition, they could be considered a soup. Would they still be considered a soup if they were combined through the form of mashing?

Lemme just jump in with this:

QOTD - What is the strangest argument you have ever gotten into? (Besides the mashed potato soup one)

funnily enough i try to stay out of most arguments similar to the mashed potato one because they usually go nowhere, so besides this one i don’t really have many. i’ve witnessed some heated debates online though (even though it’s usually just a bigot).

not an argument but i also see and sometimes engage in lots of music related discussions and debates (like bands and stuff, i’m a music nerd). idk i guess i just usually like to watch debates and arguments more than engage in them.

Once when I was babysitting I somehow got into a debate with an 8 year old over how someone would break into a building with a grappling hook, which then turned into a debate over what a building meant lol

Also, my friends and I have argued over whether or not the government exists, whether or not biology as a concept exists, where the location of my brain cell is, if I have a brain cell at all, whether anything exists at all, how much my spleen is worth, whether or not bacon can be obtained by digging, whether or not I should be the glorious leader, and once with my teacher, under what circumstances arson is acceptable, and when my birthday actually is (my friends have narrowed it down to 2 days and I refuse to let them know the real date because I worked too hard to mess with them and make them forget it)

Strange arguments are a daily occurrence in my friend group lol

I once got in an argument on whether there should be a name for the fear of celery, and in the same conversation argued about what the sequel to religious texts would be about and somehow made a connection to the book The Giver...

I know this was a month ago, but Sabrina Carpenter’s performance at the 2024 MTV VMAs was actually really cool! 👽🧑‍🚀

The same thing can be said for Chappell Roan’s performance. 🏰🗡️🔥 Like wow! Year of the female pop artists!! Let’s go!

I am old now.

Happy Birthday! :cake:

One really starts to feel old if one vividly remembers a time that has officially become a “classic / retro” period. At least you're too young for that! ☺️

But I'm definitely too old for this thread. So sorry, I'm outta here!

Algebra 2 is kicking my ass. Got a nice 33 on my quiz. The entire class minus like 4 people failed. I've talked to the teacher but she has very high expectations and is not very understanding. I now dislike almost the entire math department. My 7th grade math teacher didn't want to let me advance bc I was too quiet. I did anyway though. My algebra 1 teacher bullied us and made us feel stupid so she's definitely my least favorite. Now my algebra 2 teacher is just not good. It's a college class but she takes that a little too far. The only teacher I've liked from the math department is my geometry teacher. She was actually really nice and understanding. Anyway that's my rant. Hope everyone is having a good day/night.

It goes up and down in activity... sometimes there are a lot of people consistently active and sometimes, yeah, it feels like a ghost town

A piece of duct tape and a strange, intricately carved bean frozen in a bowl of ice that you now wear everywhere as a glorious hat?
