The unofficial list of romantic orientations on AVEN

Recommended Posts

I think many of those arocalyptists who have an AVEN account already know about the unofficial list of romantic orientations* maintained by an AVEN member Amy Ghost. I feel necessary to mention it on this board because I haven't seen any discussion of the list here yet (if there is, please point me at it) and I'm not sure if all the arocalyptists are aware of that thread. It's the most comprehensive list of romantic orientations that I've seen as of now (it's a blessing as well as a curse - the abundance of terms makes it confusing :D).

If you have any questions / suggestions / comments, it will be most convenient if you post them in the linked AVEN thread, but if you feel better about discussing the list in the current thread instead, please go ahead.

* Let me remind that, whenever AVEN is down or lagging, you can paste the URL into the Google search box and view the cached copy of the page.

Oh! This is lovely--the word "alterous" explains so much for me about my feelings re:qprs/passionate friendships/companionate love. My friends are incredibly, deeply important to me, and it does feel like a disservice sometimes to call it "platonic" when it's closer in intensity to "romantic" feelings (despite not being romantic). This list is definitely going in my bookmarks :D

I think it's problematic how aven tend to say that word such as squish is the desire to have non romantic and no sexual interaction but just platonic. I know squish is a platonic feeling but some people do have sexual attraction on their squishes as well the same way some experience sensual etc attraction, that does not make it a non-squish. Also it's funny cause really romantic and sexual attraction is not the same so why does it tend to be lumped together like this?

beside that I think it's cool

I suspect that this is a side effect on AVEN being primarily an ace site.

The article does have the term "smush" and also makes it clear that queerplatonic may or may not be sexual.

@paporomantic we have our own list now in the welcome forum, all it took was me bugging Blue Phoenix Ace on the site suggestions topic. I like the abundance of terms just to see the diversity and variation of where people define the separations of their orientations.

Not sure if it's exactly "our own" since it looks like a direct copy of the AVEN list...
