  1. I can't find it on a news site - rip my google fu - but I heard of a public vote locally for I think a new hall for the exhibition centre, and the winner of the public vote was 'bin chicken'. They ended up calling it the ibis hall - ibis being the more-formal name for the bin chicken I love playing on the swings, but sometimes they're a bit too low for adult legs :(

    The music thread

I was into kpop/jpop/cpop when PopAsia was still on tv, but I'm not great at seeking things out on my own. I like metal when I can hear the lyrics XD I got really into filk music a while back and I should go find some new artists. I haven't been looking into new music much. Hearing someone call the Divinyls 'obscure' is ...a feeling
  3. The Six of Crows duology is the most recent series I've fallen in love with. I love the dense worldbuilding and the sense of danger and the character interplay. This is making a good reading list. I should read the percy jackson series but I keep on forgetting about it. I should check out Ga'Hoole too - the movie was awesome. And I'm down for a series about gryphons. As a teenager, I was really into Tamora Pierce, because girls doing cool stuff in a fantasy setting, the wicca series by cate tiernan (magic! danger! boyfriends turning out to be evil actually!), Animorphs until book 30 (it owns. mostly)
  4. I had been thinking of going out to the movies to watch the matrix and encanto, but I decided against it because covid. I think the last non-animated movie I actually saw was a horror movie called escape room, based on the concept of where you pay to get locked into a puzzle room and have to solve the puzzles to find the key to get out. It was really, really good - they put a lot of effort into the rooms and having each room represent issues that each of the main characters are having. some of the sets and ideas for different rooms were so good. The whole movie was really well put together, and i enjoyed it a lot. [the most recent animated movie I watched was the PreCure Healin' Good movie, and it was alright. I thought the premise was interesting, and it sort of had a middle, and they had to rescue other kidnapped precures, which was fun.]
  5. I think, because the vast majority of songs that get onto the radio are about romance, that eventually most aro people will have a couple of songs about romance that they like, if only for the music, or maybe because they sing about romance in a way that feels relatable, or just because you like the metaphor they're using and want to pretend that the song is only about the metaphor. [thanks, Aqua] Like, I'm ace and 'get lucky' should annoy me on principle, but its such a bop that I can't even vaguely dislike it. I also got massively into Taylor Swift *after* I knew I was aroace to the extent of owning all her albums, though I mostly prefer her breakup songs and angry songs. And the songs about bad relationships. But I also like 'love story'. Liking things doesn't really reflect on your orientation.
  6. moon ... I live in south-eastern Australia, where's its not hot much unless summer and not deserty at all. The weather can be so changeable that in the early morning is might be foggy, then its sunny when it clears up, raining in the afternoon and clear again in the evening. That kind of thing happens more often in spring. Christmas in the middle of summer is kind of a trip, though. Mythologising about snow and cold and warm hearthfires while the aircon's blasting because its 37C out. On the other hand, for family gatherings you can have people outside as well as inside. A lot of the native birds are very pretty and a lot of them are kept as pets - I've seen people on tiktok with pet cockatiels, but they call them parakeets. That felt weird.
  7. I sit on the corner and shine :)

  13. I kind of keep an eye on what's going on in the gaming, but I haven't been keeping up with the console generations and I don't have a gaming computer, so I'm kind of down to replaying PSX final fantasies on the computer and indy stuff that looks interesting. ...and cookier clicker, but that shouldn't count. I need to stop. its kind of bad.
  14. Absolutely not, for pretty much every reason: I'm sex-repulsed, I need my alone time, I don't know how to handle young kids, the prospect of being pregnant sounds like body horror, don't have sufficient social supports, people assuming that I'm in or want a romantic relationship makes me angry and children tend to be read as products of a romantic relationship, etc
  15. guache? Its so fun to say. pthalo is fun to say if you don't get hung up on the p. Pthalo green and pthalo blue are the best ocean colours. I've seen the chinese character gender neutral pronoun (not the 'it' one, someone came up with a new one) and I love it. instead of having a gender radical on the left, it has 'immortal', as in the eight immortals*. so, like a god. yeahhhhhh :) *I may be wrong because I only saw the new character once and my mandarin is kinda rusty
  16. @roboticanary I'm personally not too worried about doing stuff at weird times because most of the things I have on during the day are either movable or things I won't get in trouble for missing, but like if anyone else in the AEDST timezone or close to wants to make suggestions about what is a good time, I wouldn't object.
  17. oooo.... on one hand that topic is really interesting, on the other that's midnight my time. On the other hand, I probably won't need to be up until noon? and i'll need to get a webcam setup but I should have gotten one ages ago anyway.
  18. They do: every time anyone sees someone different from them, they experience a compulsion to go and physically pick them up. I wish I had all the achievements in cookie clicker
  19. I'm an ageless god I live on the moon
  20. I'm 36 and, I can see why the community skews young - I basically only found out what aromanticism was well enough to id as such because livejournal was disintegrating and tumblr's reblog function meant that you could see the views and opinions and experiences of a whole heap on people in the one place - posts travelled further which meant you could see stuff from outside your immediate friends' posts. You basically need to be very online and on tumblr or reading the right blogs to know enough to be able to id as aro - or at least you did eight years ago, I'm not sure if there are really good vectors for that kind of thing in parts of twitter or FB but I kind of doubt its likely.
  21. I'd like to, but I haven't really seen any (probably because I haven't been looking *facepalm*). I've also thought about trying to get enough into metalcrafting that I could make an 'engagement' ring in aroace colours so I won't have to deal with getting asked out again but if its convincing enough I'll attract too much attention in my classes (most of my classmates are older/retired women and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed/friendly, so...)
