  1. i see what youre saying? but there's a fundamental difference between being a part of a nebulously-defined community that isn't very cohesive and reclaiming a word that has been used to degrade specific parts of that nebulously-defined community. it isn't really about not being "oppressed enough". If youre not straight or not cis, you belong in the LGBT community. if youre both cis and het (sexual or romantic) and you use the q-slur, however, you risk appropriating a volatile word that has hurt a lot of people. i would totally understand this if the q-slur had gone out of use as a slur. however, just because you might not hear it that often doesnt mean that it isnt still being used? ive had the q-slur thrown in my face before and it felt like a visceral cut. ive known people 40, 50 years old who cautioned me not to self-identify as queer because theyd had that word used against them so many times and theyd never heard it in a positive context, didnt even think it should have a positive context. i have friends who have gotten death threats from people they know and who never want to hear that word again, much less use it to describe themselves. personally, i think it is incredibly offensive that the q-slur, a literal actual slur, is being used as an umbrella term. i have no problem with people using it to identify themselves as long as it actually applies (meaning theyre either trans or sga), though i usually request people not use it around me. i do have a problem when people act like saying someone isnt allowed to use a certain word is tantamount to banning someone from a clubhouse. what im saying is its not always based on feeling? sometimes it is, but i feel that its very unfair? or probably insensitive to use a word that has never been used against you or people like you, even though other people use it sometimes. --- i apologize for blowing this up D: this is a topic i care deeply about and its hard for me not to get argumentative when it comes up. i dont have anything against you as a person and i probably won't post in this thread anymore unless i feel its very important because i don't want to escalate this into a big discourse that makes Bad Times for the forum
  2. yes!! gunnerkrigg! annie and kat's relationship is literally like the best one ive ever read? it's so supportive and they have bad times but they ultimately care about each other as people and they're able to work out their problems and ugh i just love these two fma is Quality™ and i need to re watch both of the series D: ^^^^this!!! i for one saw their relationship as pretty close to an actual sibling relationship - they disagreed a lot and grated on each other all the time, however, when it came down to it, they work well together! obvs it was distorted for Cartoon Humor™ but idk i thought it was more well written than like... half the episodes tbh

  7. this is so #aesthetic i love it
  8. tbh i love stucky? its great and i would honestly love to see a trend toward 'this is a romantic same-sex couple, and this is an important het friendship' over 'but cant two guys just be friends???? meanwhile look at het pairing #2439023499 but LOOK this one has a ginger'
  9. ive got 2 essays due 2morrow and whoops ok im crying now

  10. ok so i realize that this series im promoting is literally based in a het romance, but the raven cycle has this amazing group dynamic between 5 teenagers with terrible coping mechanisms who live in virginia and do magic and stuff? the friendship that is the gangsey just... gives me Life and it lets me ignore the main romance between the Special Guy and the Main Girl more easily than otherwise tbh i love it because all of these characters are total disasters #.# but each of them is basically devoted to the rest of them and i Die

  13. tbh?? me too. this might be a product of my introversion colliding with my major depression colliding with my anxiety, though, because ive never liked socializing and ive never liked being in a social situation where talking or sharing very specific sorts of information was considered polite. (i'm really bad at parties. don't take me to parties. not unless you want to take me away from the party.) i hate being in situations where some level of emotional commitment was expected of me, but i also dont like being in a situation that demands emotional responses be kept out of it. i work best when im allowed to randomly disclose my emotions when i need to i guess
  14. i have like 4 different accompanists and none of them really know how to play the music

      Mezzo Forte

Good accompanists are always tough to come by. Lucky me, percussion doesn't need accompaniment for much other than concerto works. :P Still, rock on playing out-of-print works on trombone!

  15. ive always had wildly fluctuating sensitivity to things, but i think it would be more accurate for me to attribute it to my mental illness than to my romantic orientation? i've got a couple things im not comfy disclosing on the internet, but its always been a grab bag for me and my reactions to personal attacks. sometimes im able to shrug them right off (actually, most of the time? if someone insults me i can usually laugh it off) but sometimes i just snap and it hits really hard, even if it's something really superficial, like this one asshole in my section who called me 'the worst player in the band' the other day (he says this a lot actually? but in this gross 'joking' voice where he sounds sarcastic? but he hates me so who knows). idk im probably just really sensitive about some things in short: im probably bothered by every seventh thing to hit me, no matter how superficial it is, and i wouldnt say its because of my aro-ness
  16. welcome to arocalypse!!! i love your icon ^-^
  17. Welcome! (wouldnt ya know... Lillian is my birth name ^-^ i dont use it anymore but still!) these are good and quality forums to be around & i hope you like it here
  18. this sounds very similar to what i'd like to do actually! it's really hard for older kids, siblings, disabled or "problem" kids to get placed in permanent homes, too, because often families who want to adopt have a very specific idea of what theyre looking for in a child (i srsly just want to say 'this aint a build a bear' to about a million ppl all the time) so good on you i guess ! dont stress abt finding a person either - youre still young and people enter your life at any and all times ^-^
  19. doing my final lit project on homoerotic subtext B| its worth 50% of my grade
